HP Begins Reminding Users That The Pre 3 Is Still Coming
While much of the webOS related news has focused on the TouchPad tablet as of late, we have to remind ourselves that HP still has a smartphone in the process of being released. The handset is the Pre 3, which was announced way back when the TouchPad was officially unveiled.

Anyway, we are still waiting on quite a bit of information such as the pricing, release date and carrier information — however that being said, it looks like HP is beginning to get closer to offering that up. Of course, we say getting closer because it looks like they are beginning to remind users (or potential users) that the Pre 3 is coming.
And given that, the next logical step would be to offer those release details. With that, this reminder from HP has arrived in the form of a mass emailer with a link to an HP website entitled “New from the US: the cutting edge HP Pre3 smartphone.”
Well, while this may upset any webOS fans, and keep in mind I say this as a webOS user — I have a hard time thinking of the Pre 3 as cutting edge. Needless to say, this page seems more aimed at the general user as opposed to the geekier user.
Some of the features they are touting include the “true multitasking functionality” as well as HP Synergy and how it has a “vertical slide-out wide keyboard” which will help to “ensure quick and comfortable error-free typing.” And while I am poking fun at HP I cannot pass up this little tidbit about how the Pre 3 “is loaded with the HP webOS, putting the smart in smartphone.”
Bottom line, despite poking fun at some of the PR-marketing-speak, I am happy to see that HP has begun to make people more aware that a webOS running smartphone is coming. Sadly though, my faith in webOS being a smashing success is not where it once was.

What about an iPhone-sized screen at 480×800 resolution? And a 1.4 MHz processor? And a 5 MP auto-focus and front facing camera? And Citrix web apps for high-end business productivity? And wireless Touch-To-Share Technology, as well as (still, after 2 years) the only wireless charging Touchstone dock? A phone doesn’t have to have a massive screen that can’t fit in your pocket to be cutting edge like all the new Android slabs. Mind you, I don’t have the confidence in WebOS that I once had, either, but I am a geekier user as you can tell and I’m still very excited about the Pre 3 (as long as it comes to Sprint soon).
@Jason I second that. WebOS still has alot of potential. Just get the Pre3 out and get it on Sprint ASAP!
As an original pre owner I have to say while I love the software, the hardware was so bad. I had to replace my pre many times and palm really gave up on supporting their original customers. They never loaded flash like they promised so I lost faith. I don’t see them having success with the new pre3, maybe if they had released shortly after the announcement but this phone has already been forgotten.
I am so with you on this Jason.
I doubt the pre 3 will come to sprint for some time. i have had my pre since launch day. i finally gave up on hp/palm and just ordered the evo 3d thru premiere. i loved the pre, just think they dropped the ball by abandoning all the original pre customers on sprint
@frank james
How many times does HP have to remind you, it’s also up to the carriers. Obviously, Sprint is in love with Andrid, funny thing is that the market share for Android has already started to decline slowly.
Day one pre owner… still have the same phone. It does seem to be getting pretty tired though. I use Govnah and run at 500/1000 with no problems (thanks Homebrew!).
I am ready for the Pre 3 on Sprint and as many .. getting pretty tired of waiting.
Love WebOS and its multi-tasking from day one!
