Bejeweled 3 Making Its Way To 360, PS3, DS

Bejeweled 3 Will Debut On All Three Platforms Simultaneously, PopCap Shares Ridiculous Bejeweled Statistics

PopCap has apparently turned a satisfactory amount of PC gamers into mindless, jewel-obsessed drones, because they’ve set their sights on consoles and handhelds, announcing that Bejeweled 3 will be making its debut on DS, PS3, and Xbox 360 later this year.

Sure, most PopCap games end up on consoles and handhelds eventually – Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle have addicted their share of console players – but Bejeweled is something special, in part because PopCap says that the game is purchased in some form “at the rate of one copy every 4.3 seconds.” Additionally, the press release says that half a billion people around the world have played Bejeweled for an estimated total of 8 billion hours.

Those are some pretty staggering numbers, but this is Bejeweled we’re talking about here; it’s one of the top casual games of all times. Strangely, there wasn’t a reveal of an iOS or Android version of Bejeweled 3 included in this announcement, even though getting Bejeweled 3 into app stores as quickly as possible seems like a no-brainer. There’s almost certainly an announcement on the horizon though, so sit tight mobile gamers.

Bejeweled 3 for Nintendo DS will be offered through retail, while it’ll be offered through Xbox Live and PSN on consoles. There’s no solid release date yet, with the press release only saying it’ll be out in Q4 2011. Are you picking this up when it hits consoles, or are you going to hold out for the eventual iOS and Android release? Already own it on PC? Let us know it the comments section!
