Skype Unveils Version 5.5 Beta For Windows, Brings "Deeper" Facebook Integration

Skype has announced the latest update in terms of Windows, version 5.5. Though, at present this one remains available only in beta form. That said, those looking to use Skype and have some additional Facebook integration may want to get this one downloaded and installed. Yup, Skype 5.5 for Windows features “deeper” Facebook integration.

And as to what that actually means — goodies such as a Facebook contacts tab, being able to initiate a instant messaging session and even being able to like or comment on a status update. According to the details coming from Skype, here are the new features that are found within Skype 5.5 Beta for Windows;

• Facebook Instant Messaging – chat with your Facebook friends directly from Skype.
• Facebook Contacts Tab – a new tab within Skype dedicated to your Facebook contacts list.
• ‘Like’ and even comment on a Facebook status – You can also use the Facebook News Feed within Skype to easily “like” a friend’s status or comment on it without logging into Facebook.
• New Call Control Toolbar – featuring redesigned graphic icons.
• Improvements to the saving of a phone number in the “Call Phones” section.
• Visual improvements to placing a call on hold.

Bottom line here, while we would not normally suggest that everyone run out and upgrade to a beta version of software — this one could be nice for those who regularly use both Skype and Facebook to stay in contact. And honestly, it seems like only those who rely heavily on both of these services will be interested considering the other new features in Skype 5.5 beta for Windows are mostly smaller improvements.
