HTC ChaCha Android Smartphone With AT&T Branding Revealed
The HTC ChaCha may not be the Android phone with the highest specs, however given it does feature a Facebook button it may hold some appeal for those who are a bit more addicted to the social networking giant. That said, while we can see some advantages in the ChaCha, we can also see some disadvantages. Anyway, it looks like Facebook addicts who are with AT&T here in the US may soon have the opportunity to purchase a ChaCha.

Of course, by saying ‘may soon have the opportunity to purchase’ we are really just speculating based on the fact that an image of an HTC ChaCha with AT&T branding has been revealed. Thankfully though, the speculation is not coming entirely from this one image. If you think back to the end of May, you may remember that we also saw a leaked roadmap for AT&T and that roadmap included the ChaCha which was slated for release sometime in Q2.
And well, as many will likely realize — Q2 is quickly coming to an end. Plus, the handset in the picture is showing a date of July 17th, which would hint that a release is coming around (if not on) the 17th. Bottom line, based on the image and the previous leaked roadmap, we expect the ChaCha to launch sooner rather than later.
As for the handset itself, it seems to be most of the same since it was originally announced. Granted there are some minor differences, but by and large — the specs are the same. The HTC logo above the display is replaced by an AT&T logo and the Facebook button on the bottom is now sporting some nicely rounded corners with a slightly thicker white border.
Otherwise there are some minor differences on the keyboard, most notable the FN key is now labeled as Alt and the original Camera button to the right of the space bar has been replaced with a .com button and the Camera button shifted to the left. That said, we always like to see the addition of a .com button for easier typing of URL’s.
With that, the ChaCha looks like it will be a 3G device and still featuring the 2.6 inch (480 x 320) touchscreen display, hardware QWERTY keyboard, 800MHz processor, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card slot, VGA quality front facing camera, 5 megapixel rear facing camera. And lastly, the handset is running Android 2.2 Froyo, which is a nice start, however given the super tight Facebook integration — we suspect that it will be a long time (if ever) before the ChaCha is further upgraded.
Bottom line, given a nice price this could make an appealing handset for some.
