Motorola Responds: Droid 2 Global Gingerbread Update Not Yet Rolling-Out

Droid 2 Global User Confusion: Verizon Says Gingerbread Is Rolling-Out, Motorola Says Not Yet

Lets sit down for a few moments and address the issue of the Gingerbread update for the Motorola Droid 2 Global. We, and by we I really mean me, reported earlier in the week that the update was in the process of rolling out.

Needless to say, that post generated more than a few comments from users not being able to get the update. And well, as we often find with Android updates, they roll-out in batches so some getting and some not-getting is fairly normal. Anyway, this one goes out to my favorite comment of the bunch which stated that I don’t have a clue. (thanks for giving me something to smile at)

Well, truth of the matter is, we can only base our reports on what Verizon tells us. And as of that day they not only posted the official change log for the update, but they also posted some details in the @VZWsupport Twitter account in regards to the update rolling-out.

Heck, even as recent as (within) 30 minutes they are still posting and letting users know that “the update is being pushed out in batches” letting those interested know that they “should receive it soon.”

If you ask us, that means the update is rolling out. That aside though, it looks like Motorola is now telling a different story. According to a recent posting on the Motorola support forums, which came from Matt who is a forums manager;

“I’m not sure where the confusion is coming from, butĀ  the tweets being posted here appear to be premature. The Droid 2 GlobalĀ  update is not rolling out at this time. Sorry for misinformationĀ  — we are looking into it.”

With that, I will say this, we understand the confusion and being Android users — we understand the frustration. But the bottom line, it seems like Verizon and Motorola need to get on the same page. And in the meantime, keep checking for that update and let us know when you get some Gingerbread. Well, everyone aside from Nick, who commented in the last post that he received his update.

    2. You have to be kidding me.... says:

Motorola and Verizon suck. They created a phone that has plenty of bugs and they take their sweet time to send out an update that can correct the issues. This will be the last motorola I purchase…

    3. kazara smith says:

That’s bull#$%#, I’m so glad I’m upgrading to a new phone in about two weeks.

    4. red says:

This is BS, phone camebarely operational out of the box and now I gotta wait on all the bug fixes till kingdom come (and no, rooting wrong droid flavor does not solve hardware issues on THIS phone). All in all, it took google about 2 years to flop nearly as badly as linux, at this point I’m just wondering how long it will be before motorolla decides to skip the program manager and demands to compile source code based on the color of the bezel in your phone

    5. Clotho says:

      :((((((

Thanks Motorola. You know where to stick it.

    6. Sarah says:

Screw you Motorolla I was looking forward to this! A$$holes! I have no life and the only thing I have to do is sit here and wait for an update to fix my bugs on this expensive ass phone! JESUS! Not even being sarcastic thats exactly what im doing right now…. i love the phone but needs bugs fixed…

    7. Robert says:

    8. Bill says:

What abunch of crybabies itt. “I hate motorola” because verizon dropped the ball with some incorrect information? Please.

    9. Carl says:

I can’t take this anymore! I gave this Droid 2 thing a chance but now it’s time to move on to a product that really gets support from it’s manufacturer. I am moving to the iPhone, no more Motorola! Total faith lost in them because their products are so full of bugs. An iPhone just works, that’s how it’s supposed to be. I don’t want to continue trouble shooting my phone on a daily basis and restoring the system to it’s original on a weekly basis just for things to work. That’s too much work! I paid for the phone, now the phone has me working my %ss off to fix it like if it pays me a check every week. Now this, no update. I’m done!!!!!!!!!!!

    10. Sam says:

First the encrypted bootloader, and now no gingerbread. there truly are better phones out there with more support.
      p.s.
      It is not the iphone

    11. Allen says:

You people crack me up! Motorola phones are sweet…so what are you going to do, buy a cheap plastic unstable HTC phone? I’ve had 2 of them already and all I can say is their junk…you people have no patients…grow up!

    12. zack says:

Believe it or not but I know someone running the Droid x and he received an update as of last night. Now I don’t know if its the same on as we are speaking about now,but the update did change his phone all around with different color schemes.

    13. Paul says:

I dont know where ya went to school at or even if ya went but motorola phones is the ones that are junk HTC are good phones i have two HTC phones and they have both been great. I also have had several motorola phones including the Droid X and they are all junk compared to HTC phones. Also HTC has excellent customer service and rolls out updates before anyone else. If you read any posts ya should know that unless ya cant read.
