DICE: Battlefield 3 & Modern Warfare 3 Aren't In The Same League

DICE Says Battlefield 3 & Modern Warfare 3 Not Even 'Competing At The Same Sport'

We’ve got a while before this whole Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 rivalry comes to head, but that gives us plenty of time to sit back and watch EA and Activision take potshots at each other. This time around, the burns are coming from Battlefield 3 executive producer Patrick Bach, and according to him, Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 are so different, it’s impossible to compare the two.

“Everyone wants there to be a fight between us – and I understand that – but the problem is if you say it’s a ‘fight,’ you’re assuming you’re competing at the same sport,” he said in an interview with UK gaming magazine PSM3. “We have so many things in our game that aren’t a part of Modern Warfare, so it really comes down to personal preference. You choose based on the depth you want, the maturity level, your own personal taste… it’s all about how you get your fix.”

“We’re building the game we want to play, and there are a lot of Battlefield fans who agree with us,” he added. Those are some pretty big words coming from the underdog in this fight, but if anyone can dethrone Bobby Kotick and his yearly FPS series, it looks like it’s going to be Battlefield 3 and their Frostbite 2.0 engine.

Personally, I think that Battlefield 3 is moving EA and DICE in the right direction, even if they don’t manage to secure the FPS crown. This major update to the tech DICE utilizes in the Battlefield series raises the bar by a fair amount, and Activision, Treyarch, and Infinity Ward now have to catch up with times. With Infinty Ward saying that making a new Call of Duty engine would be “counter productive,” (the current one has been in use since Call of Duty 2) it doesn’t look like Call of Duty fans are in for a visual overhaul on the scale Battlefield players are getting anytime soon.

What’s your take – Call of Duty, Battlefield, or both? Can Battlefield 3 unseat Modern Warfare 3 in the battle for FPS supremacy? Share your analyses and educated guesses in the comments section below.

I don’t think BF3 is going to outsell MW3. BF3 will be the better game by far, but you got all these 10 year old COD fanboys who probably haven’t even heard of Battlefield at all.

      battlefield 3 all the way

    3. Hamboza says:

Battlefield 3 FTW, no really just FCOD!

Battlefield 3 js made for the men. COD is for the little boys.

The only reason this argument is going on is because people are too stupid to read up on the tech. If you have played Battlefield Bad Company 2, then you’ve most likely been sayin it all along. Battlefield trumps COD. Theres no “comparison”. Just a list of what COD LACKS. VEHICLES, NEW ENGINE, CLASSES, MED KIT, AND REALISTIC SNIPING WITH GRAVITY!!!! How can anyone who has half a brain spend $60 on a re-hash? lol Activision is just cutting costs to get a bigger profit from US the dumbass consumers
