Sprint EVO 4G & EVO Shift 4G Software Updates Expected To Roll-Out Shortly

If you are carrying either the EVO 4G or EVO Shift 4G then it looks like an update will soon be rolling out for you. The EVO 4G update is expected to arrive on June 20th and the EVO Shift 4G update is expected to arrive a few days earlier on June 17th. Of course, as the EVO 4G has already received Gingerbread, it is natural to assume that the EVO Shift 4G update will be the more exciting of the two.

Nonetheless, both sound like they will be welcomed, just being that they are going to be welcomed for different reasons. First up, the EVO 4G update. This one is noted as being a maintenance update. According to the details that have come available it will bring the software up to 4.24.651.1 and include fixes for voicemail notifications, hearing aid compatibility and Netflix.

Specifically, the change log reads as follows;

• Ghost VVM Indicator
• Hearing Aid Compatibility menu – potential for a menu option to disappear if turned on with previous update
• Netflix Compatibility Issue

Next up is the EVO Shift 4G — which is bringing Gingerbread. This update is expected to arrive on June 17th for those checking manually and June 20th for those with a bit more patience. That being said, this will bring Android 2.3 Gingerbread and bring the software up to 2.76.651.4. In terms of the changes, in addition to Gingerbread you can expect Swype, a download manager and other fixes.

The change log for the EVO Shift 4G reads as follows;

• Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
• Swype
• The downloads application gives the user easy access to any file downloaded from the browser, email, or other application
• Fixes: Unable to stream media through some applications

With that, the obvious is here in that these have not yet begun rolling out and these dates are always subject to change. Plus, as standard with any Android update post — make sure your important information is backed up before you begin the process.
