Panasonic Unveils The Toughbook Android Tablet

Panasonic Toughbook Android Tablet Will Feature A 10.1" Display, 3G/4G Connectivity & Is Expected To Arrive For Sale In Q4 2011

Panasonic has unveiled their rugged-designed Android tablet. Except, while we have some of the details, there are still a few important items missing. That said, the Toughbook Android Tablet is not expected to arrive until sometime in Q4 of 2011 so we still have some time.

With that, first and foremost — the missing details including the pricing and which version of Android the Toughbook Tablet will be running. Of course, we do have to say that the name sounds a bit strange given its not a notebook, maybe the could have dubbed it the Toughtablet. Either way though. What we can tell you about the device is that it appears to be running a 2.x version of Android. Granted, that is only based on what we can see from the icons in the below image.

Other details include a 10.1 inch XGA multitouch display. More specifically, the display is being described as being a “high brightness, daylight viewable screen so that mobile workers, in markets like field service, home healthcare and public safety, can easily see critical data and operate the device regardless of lighting conditions.”

The Toughbook Android Tablet will also support active stylus input (for sales, customer service and capturing signatures at point-of-sale), as well as come with satellite-based GPS and 3G/4G connectivity options. And while that seems like very few details at this point, that is what Panasonic has chosen to release. Needless to say, while this does seem like a rather unique tablet, it is one that will probably not be widely adapted by regular consumers.

And lastly, while Panasonic did not offer much, there was also mention of hardware level security.

“Enterprise-class mobile computing requires a heightened level of device security that is not currently available in today’s tablet market. To address this need, the new Toughbook tablet is being designed with security embedded at the hardware level.”
