Acer Chromebooks Miss June 15th Launch, Now Officially Delayed
Google made the announcement back during the I/O conference, Chromebooks were coming and they were going to be available beginning June 15th. Officially we were expecting a model from Samsung (the Series 5) and from Acer (the Chromia) however as you saw yesterday, we mentioned only how the Samsung Series 5 Chromebooks were available.

That being said, we suspected that the Acer models may have been delayed, but at the same time were hoping that Amazon was just being slow in changing the pre-order button to a buy now button. Well, the bad news has come — the Acer Chromia Chromebook is delayed.
And delayed as in confirmed by Acer. Though, before anyone gets super upset, they are stating that the delay should not be all that long. In fact, according to the statement they provided to Computer World, the Acer Chromebook is still expected to be available for sale before the end of the month. Of course, we do have to point out that while they seemed optimistic about a short delay — they failed to offer another specific date for availability.
Moving on to another interesting tidbit, it seems the name has changed a bit. As of yesterday, the Acer Chromebook was listed on Amazon as the Chromia. And well, as of today it is simply the Acer AC700 Chromebook. Name aside though, it is made from Acer and runs ChromeOS. In terms of price, the Wi-Fi only model is currently listed at $349.99 and the 3G model at $429.99.
Bottom line, if you were anxious to purchase a Chrome OS notebook (and leaning towards Acer) you now have a few options to consider. The first being to sit back and try to wait patiently for the Acer Chromebook to arrive (and hope that is truly is released in June) or the second — forget the Acer model and grab the Samsung Series 5.
