NPD: L.A. Noire Best Selling Game Of Last Month
L.A. Noire from Team Bondi and Rockstar is, well, pretty incredible. If you haven’t checked it out, you should. But, I suspected many of you already have, considering that NPD is now reporting that L.A. Noire was the bestselling game in the United States last month, just edging out the multiplayer team shooter Brink.

L.A. Noire was of course the riveting detective game that is getting a lot of critical and user acclaim, and looks to be an early contender for Game Of The Year nods, although it’s way too early to consider talk like that when this is a year that will see Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Uncharted 3 released, among other titles. L.A. Noire was in development for reportedly seven years and is allegedly one of the most expensive video games of all time, so hopefully it makes a lot of cash for Take-Two so they can greenlight a sequel.
Anyway, in the hardware space, NPD reports that once again, the Xbox 360 was once again the king of hardware sales. It’s been the bestselling console for 11 of the last 12 months, and Microsoft is proudly boasting that the Xbox 360 sales have increased monthly year-over-year for 17 months straight. Microsoft isn’t perfect, but when they get something right, they get it right.
As for which games will be popular this month, Duke Nukem Forever, the game 14 years in the making, is coming out for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I imagine it will be popular, if only because people are interested to see what’s it like after being the internet meme it’s been for most of those 14 years. Early reviews haven’t been kind to the duke, either. Also, a game like L.A.Noire’s stature may be popular going into June, too.
