E3 2011: New Wii U Trailer Targets Hardcore Gamers

Nintendo Flaunts Third Party Support For Wii U, Shows Off Wii U Game Lineup In New Trailer

So, the Wii U has been revealed. We know that there’s a huge touchscreen controller that doubles as a handheld, we know that it’s releasing sometime in 2012, and we know that “Wii U” is a dumb name. But what about the games? Nintendo didn’t beat around the bush at all during their E3 presser – they know that the Wii failed to grab the hardcore audience and they know that they need to change that with the Wii U.

It seems that they’re on the right path too, playing a trailer with all sorts of game development big-wigs talking about how great the Wii U is during their conference. After about a minute of testimonials, we get to see what games are in the works for the Wii U, and it seems like Nintendo picked out some of the most violent games in an effort to let hardcore gamers know that they aren’t getting left behind this time around.

We can’t really tell how the Wii U performs graphically because all of the gameplay footage in the trailer below is actually taken from either the Xbox 360 or PS3 version of the game in question. Still, just knowing that the Wii U will receive games like Aliens: Colonial Marines, Ninja Gaiden 3 (which was met with applause and cheers from the audience), Batman: Arkham City, Darksiders II, and Assassin’s Creed should be enough to make most hardcore gamers happy.

What do you think of the Wii U so far? Do you like the controller, or is it just another gimmick? How about that selection of games? Let us know what you think of the Wii U in the comments section below, and enjoy the trailer!
