WWDC 2011 Rumor Roundup: iPhone 5, iOS 5, Mac OS X Lion, iCloud & More
We’re just a few hours away from one of Apple’s most important announcements of the year, which will take place on the first day of this year’s WWDC. The main star of the show should have been the iPhone 5 (or iPhone 4S) considering that most of its predecessors were unveiled at a prior WWDC edition and launched immediately after.

This year Apple is changing the rules of its own game, apparently, as the company is about to make official the delay of the next-gen iPhone launch. There are various reasons that would back up Apple’s decision to launch the iPhone 5 only at some point in fall (Verizon iPhone 4 launch, great overall iPhone 4 sales, betty Christmas holiday iPhone launch window) and today we’re going to get some confirmation on the next iPhone’s release date. Because Steve Jobs will deliver today’s keynote, which we’ll cover closely for you here at TFTS, and one way or another, we’ll get more information on the next-gen iPhone.
What’s clear though is that Apple will make official at least three important products: iOS 5, Mac OS X Lion and iCloud.
iOS 5 is the next-gen mobile OS that’s going to power Apple’s mobile devices. It’ll be interesting to see whether Apple launches it in the following days, or whether we’re only going to see it become official once the iPhone 5 gets released, but whatever the case may be today we’ll find out about the most important new features of iOS 5.
Mac OS X Lion is the Apple’s latest computer operating system, one that’s supposed to integrate plenty of iOS features in our day-to-day computer use. It’ll be officially announced today, and we can’t wait to get more details on its launch dates, not to mention we’re really curios to see all those new features coming to a Mac near you soon.
iCloud has already been revealed to be the official name of Apple’s upcoming music (and not only?) streaming service. Today we’re going to find out more details about how iCloud works, what Apple will charge you for it, and how it’ll compete against Amazon’s and Google’s similar services.
All these-about-to-be-announced products lead me to the iPhone 4S/5 again. This year’s WWDC keynote seems to be a lot busier than previous keynotes, so the next-gen iPhone simply doesn’t seem to have any room for a proper announcement. What do you guys think?
