WWDC 2011: iOS 5 About to be Unveiled But Apple Throws Some Numbers At Us First

Scott Forstall Takes the WWDC Stage to Introduce & Preview iOS 5; But Before There’s Some Bragging in Order

As expected, and following Mac OS X Lion, which was made official at WWDC 2011 just a few minutes ago, we have iOS 5 ready to step up to the plate. To introduce and preview it we have Scott Forstall, Apple’s senior vice president on iOS Software.

But also as expected we have some numbers from Apple related to its iOS universe, which is something Apple definitely wants to brag with especially considering the fierce competition we’re witnessing in the mobile world today.

So what does Apple brag with? Here are those numbers:

  • 200 million iOS devices sold
  • 25 million iPads sold
  • 15 billion songs sold through the iTunes Music Store
  • 130 million book downloads from the iBookstore
  • 90,000 iPad apps in the App Store
  • 14 billion downloads from the App Store
  • $2.5 billion paid to developers
  • 225 million iOS accounts with credit cards and 1-click purchasing (although it’s not really just one click, is it Apple?)

The iOS universe is certainly a tough one to beat, and Google should certainly be following its performance. That goes double for Microsoft, and everyone else in the business trying to fight Apple’s mobile momentum. We’ll be back with iOS 5 features so don’t go anywhere!
