WWDC 2011: iOS 5 Release Date Set For Fall, Unless You’re a Developer
We talked about various iOS 5 features, as described by Apple at WWDC 2011 today, including the Notification Center, the Newsstand, Twitter integration, Safari mobile, the Reminders app, the Camera app updates, the new Mail and Game Center features, the PC Free activation and OTA update systems and the new iMessage app but there are over 200+ new features Apple is getting ready to offer us this fall.

That’s right, iOS 5 will be available only this fall, a few months after being made official, which is something we’ve seen happen with iOS 4 too, and something we expect considering that’s when the iPhone 4S/5 is supposed to be launched.
Now if you’re developer, you’ll have access to it today, but unless you’re ready to pay that $99 developer fee just to get a taste of iOS 5 now, you’ll have to wait until fall to enjoy the 200+ new iOS features. And here are just some of the features that were not specifically demoed today:
- Personal dictionary
- Airplay mirroring
- iTunes Tone Store
- Multitasking gestures
- New iPad Music App
- Hourly Weather forecasts
- Wi-Fi sync to iTunes
- Accessible input for mobility
- iPad split keyboard
- improved Facetime video quality
- emoji emoticons
- alternate routes in maps
We’ll certainly be talking about iOS 5 in the following months until it becomes official, so there’s plenty of time to discover even more features of the new iOS version. Have you noticed anything particularly interesting so far?
