WWDC 2011: iOS 5 Gets Official With New Notification Center System, Twitter Integration & Newsstand
After showing off its iOS universe, Apple finally unveiled the much-anticipated iOS 5. We have 10 new important features to show you today, as described by Apple on stage, although there are 200 new user features and 1,500 new APIs to take advantage of when iOS 5 becomes available.

The first three new iOS 5 features are a new notification system, the newsstand and Twitter integration.
As we reported earlier today we’re looking at a brand new notification system, one that will certainly improve your whole iOS experience. The Notification Center will take care of all your notifications. All you will have to do is swipe down from the top on the screen of your iOS device and you’ll get all your notifications in one place, whether it’s calls, Facetimes calls, emails, messages, or stock and weather details. The feature is most welcomed and I, for one, can’t wait to test it out.
The Newsstand is something I’m not particularly interested in, or at least not for now. But Apple sees plenty of potential in its subscription-based magazine and this new kind of media could grow a lot bigger in the future. That’s why you’ll need a Newsstand for, you know, to keep all your magazines in, just like you use your iBooks section for your digital books.
The introduction of the new Notification Center also means we’re not going to be disturbed while in apps or while enjoying movies by any new notification. A simple message on top of the screen shows you the notification without taking you out of the app. Add to that home screen notification integration and all your iOS notification dreams appear to have been addressed.
Twitter integration is one more important feature of the upcoming iOS 5 as Apple wants to make it easier for its customers to use the popular social networking service across their iOS devices. It’s funny however to see Scott Forstall talk about Twitter considering how he doesn’t actually do much tweeting of his own.
But back to Twitter integration we’re looking at a single sign-on and at Twitter integration with various apps like Camera, Photos, Safari or Maps, which are all features you should enjoy on the iPhone. Especially considering that iOS users are sending out 1 billion tweets every week from iOS devices.
What do you say, folks? Does any of this sound interesting to you? Well stay around as we have even more iOS 5 features to show you!

Blatantly copying Android.. Apple is not innovating if they are copying. Android has implemented this for years. Most of these new updates on apple’s iOS5 are completely copied from Android operating system. Editing pictures ‘out of the box’, fully integrated twitter into phone, new message system, Over the air updates are just a few.
Wow. I didn’t know it was this ripped off. Pulled down from the top of the screen? I mean couldn’t they have been a little less criminal about it? Hehe.
Funny thing is that we apple users are so closed off from even having a clue about other os’s that it’s all so new and innovative! Hehe. Like you know, how apple made the first mp3 player and the first smartphone.
