WWDC 2011: iOS 5 to Feature Improved Mobile Safari, Reminders & Camera Updates

Apple’s 10 iOS 5 Features Announced at WWDC 2011 Include: New Safari Browser, Reminders & Camera Updates

Apple unveiled iOS 5 today at a special WWDC 2011 event during which it presented the main 10 features of the new iOS update. We already talked about the Notification Center, the Newsstand and the deep Twitter integration and now we’re going to look at the all new, better, mobile Safari, at Reminders and at Camera updates.

Apple’s mobile Safari browser is, according to Apple, and others, probably, “the most popular” mobile browser out there with 64% of mobile consumer using it it to go online. But I don’t think it’s necessarily the best. Because if it were, then how could you improve it?

Apple will improve Safari in iOS 5 and among the new features hitting the iOS mobile browser we were shown the reading list, that will keep a story around for you to “Read It Later” on any iOS device, tabbed browsing (which is a more than welcome feature for a mobile browser) and, naturally, Twitter integration, which we have already talked about earlier.

But what is this new Reminders feature? It appears to be a new Apple app that will probably replace most list apps out there. Using it you’ll be able to list to-do things, set reminders for certain events and assign location-based notifications to it. Reminders will sync with your Calendar, which is probably one more reason some people will decide to use Apple’s to-do app than third-party apps.

As for the Camera updates, well, Apple is apparently well aware of the popularity of the cameras on its iDevices. That’s why it decided to add a Camera button on the lock screen, which will certainly help you snap photos and record on-the-go videos a lot faster. Even if your screen is locked! Even more impressively Apple decided to finally offer us a button to snap those picture and that role will be played by the volume up key. Other features include pinch-to-zoom or tapping on the photo to customize certain settings for that section of the image. If that’s not enough then editing photos right inside the app will surely satisfy your mobile needs when it comes to taking photos, won’t it? Because the camera updates also include photo editing on the go, just as you wanted it.

Stay tuned, folks, as we have even more iOS 5 features to show you, straight from Apple’s WWDC event!
