WWDC 2011: iOS 5 Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2, iPod touch 3G & 4G
By now you’re surely more than aware of the fact that Apple announced iOS 5 today, and detailed 10 of its 200+ features during the WWDC 2011 opening keynote. You’re probably also aware that iOS 5 will only be available to regular users at some point in fall 2011, probably when the next gen iPhone 4S/5 will be launched, and not sooner.

But what about older devices? Will iOS 5 bring fragmentation to the iOS universe? As you may also know, iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G didn’t offer all the available iOS 4 features in order not to cripple your iPhone 3G experience. That however, did happen since the iPhone 3G is not really meant to run iOS 4, is it?
Apple will not do the same mistake again as the iPhone 3G will not be upgradeable to iOS 5. In order to run iOS 5 you will require one of the following: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2, iPod touch 3G or iPod touch 4G. Naturally, besides these devices, iOS 5 will also run on the iPhone 4S/5, the iPad 3 and the iPod touch 5G, but we’ll cross those bridges once we get there.
