E3 2011: Insomniac Reveals New Multiplatform IP: Overstrike

Insomniac's New Franchise Overstrike Will Be The Developer's First Multiplatform Title, Coming To Both Xbox 360 & PS3

At EA’s E3 press conference today, Insomniac Games founder and CEO Ted Price took to the stage and announced that Insomniac was leaving the days of platform exclusivity behind and releasing their first multiplatform game ever. The new title is called Overstrike, a multiplayer game that will release on both Xbox 360 and PS3.

“Overstrike blends Insomniac’s flair for exoctic weaponry and immersive storytelling with a touch of humor,” Price said. ” Set in the near future, Overstrike follows a team of four elite agents obliterating enemy strongholds using fringe tech gadgets and lethal teamwork.”

He then went on to preview the four who made up the Overstrike 9 team: Dalton Brooks, a reformed mercenary; Isabelle Sinclair, a scientist; Naya Deveraux, a theif, and Jacob Kimble, a detective. Price says that these four are the black sheep of their agency, leaving a trail of destruction and employing questionable tactics to get the job done. Nevertheless, a shadowy organization is threatening humankind and Overstrike 9 is the last hope.

Price’s presentation was followed by a trailer that featured Dalton Brooks explaining himself and his team, interlaced with scenes of them destroying anything that moves. It ends with the four squadmates facing down a near indestructible and towering robot/human hybrid. The trailer is packed full of action, and it makes Overstrike one of E3′s games to watch. Price didn’t share a release date yet, and we didn’t get to see any gameplay footage, but we expect to hear more on Overstrike real soon.
