Blackberry PlayBook Hits Sprint June 5th

Expected PlayBook Launch On Sprint Hits Just A Bit Sooner Than Expected, Priced At $500

Exciting news for those of you contemplating the jump to a tablet, as word out of Sprint says they’ll be getting in the Blackberry PlayBook for $500. And this word comes from no less than Sprint Marketing Director Gerald Evans himself.

Turns out the Marketing Director leaked the word on his personal blog, and though the post in question didn’t exactly stay up very long, it was just long enough to reveal that the wi-fi only version of the PlayBook, complete with 16 gigs of storage, would land in stores this weekend–June 5th, specifically–and would sell for $499.99. Oh, and even better–you’ll be able to get Blackberry Bridge access with no additional fees, a serious plus for the more business-based user.

Meanwhile, word about the 4G version was not leaked, which we’re all still kind of sad about–you’d think Evans could have gone a little farther whilst leaking sensitive corporate information about pricing and release dates–but at last report that one’s still on track for a summer release anyway, so it’s likely only a matter of time. before that one comes out. There’s only so much summer left, you know!

And while I kind of doubt this was some kind of accident–chances are the Director of Marketing for Sprint already knows tech journalism types are watching his blog anyway, so he probably knew this would get disseminated in rapid fashion–but it’s welcome news all the same, especially if you’re looking to pick up a new tablet. So this might be the weekend to go shopping.

How about you guys? Interested in snagging a new Blackberry Playbook at a pretty good price, or are you thinking you’re going to wait for the 4G version to hit? You have plenty of options, especially if you’re not interested in Blackberry at all, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you’ve got in mind as far as picking up a new tablet goes!

I’m wondering about the sales of the 3G if the 4G is lagging in distribution by what cant be no more than 3mo’s on their time frame….I’m a blackberry guy…been looking foward to it, sprint is my carrier, but why not wait a little longer for a product that will be lightning fast vs. something that will be outdated in a matter of weeks….

wow..please forgive the double negative on that post…Friday night…blame the beers…

    3. No trouble at all, man. Anyway, the thing about that is, we don’t know just when the 4G will get released. They were figuring summer before, but when you’ve got that big a lead time, they may well push it back to October to get in on Christmas shopping season. But you’ve got a point enough by itself. Even if the wait is a couple months why bother getting 3G?
