Computex 2011: Asus Brings Out Gaming Laptop, The ROG G53SX
I love gaming laptops. I’ve said it before, I know, but I always look forward to seeing what kind of massive specs get attached to a new laptop clearly geared toward PC gamers. And though my own days of PC gaming are somewhat behind me (I personally remember when PC gaming was a litany of sorrow that required endless tweaking before you could get the game to actually run), it’s good to see that the field has gotten a lot better since those days.

The specs here will not disappoint, what few we have so far, anyway. The Asus ROG G53SX, currently showing out at the Computex 2011 show, is packing an Intel Core i7 processor, backed up by fully two gigs of video memory and a hybrid hard drive that’s got a solid state drive partition for extra speed, which would kind of settle the whole hard drive / solid state drive issue pretty well, I’d say. It also has THX and EAX 5.0 sound capability.
And that’s not all, either! Asus has also dropped in an Nvidia GTX 560M graphics card, which in turn will allow you to run glasses-free 3D on this thing, and, reportedly, in separate windows. This means you could basically have a 2D display in one window, and then a 3D display in a completely different window, and switch between the two on the fly or keep the two out side by side.
The down side here is that we don’t yet have word on release dates or pricing for this nicely put together package, likely because it’s still fairly early-stage stuff just yet. We don’t even know how much system RAM this thing’s packing or how big that hybrid hard drive is, let alone all the other ports and such that should go into this.
Still though, it sounds like a pretty sweet system, assuming all the extra nuts and bolts are in place properly. Do you guys think this is going to be a great gaming PC? Or are you convinced that this whole 3D thing is just a way to distract us from bad quality media? The comments section is waiting, folks, so head on in and tell us what you think about 3D PCs.
