iOS Users Stream More Video And Music Than Any Other Operating System
I think, on some level, we all kind of knew this was coming but the announcement is worth it to make it perfectly clear just the same. Apple device users–between iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad–stream more media than any other mobile operating system, even Android.

Word straight out of Nielsen, the Internet use measurement company, says that almost half–46 percent–of all iOS users have streamed media in the last 3o days, be it online music or radio, while Android came in a close second at 43 percent. The clear top two were followed closely by Windows Phone 7 at a surprisingly narrow 39 percent, and by Blackberry at a head-shakingly distant 24 percent. That almost makes you sad just to read that, doesn’t it? Well, I guess it’s true that Blackberry was never really meant for much more than business, and seeing these numbers really doesn’t do much to disabuse me of the notion. Video streaming proved similarly close for the top two, with 37 percent of iOS users taking on video, and 35 percent of Android users joining the fray.
It surprises me just how close things actually are, lack of video statistics notwithstanding on the Windows Phone 7 side. Three percent separates top from second, and another four percent from second to third, which makes things super close. And it’s especially strange given that Apple has a regular Netflix app besides. But still, all the stakes in media seem incredibly close, so it gives a bit more credence to the argument that says Windows Phone 7 could pose a serious competitive threat to Apple in the not too distant future.
So what about you guys? Streaming any media on your various devices? Prefer one OS to another for that? Or are these statistics really rather meaningless considering all the other things these devices do? Hit the comments section and tell us what you think here!
