Motorola Offers Last Minute Update On Droid X Gingerbread Roll-Out Plans

Droid X Gingerbread Update To Begin "Late Tonight" & Those With Rooted Phones Need Not Wait

We know the Droid X software update is going to begin rolling out today and that update will be bringing Gingerbread. In other words, its a worthwhile update and one that many Droid X users are likely waiting for. Heck, we can imagine that more than a few have been insanely checking every few seconds to see if the update is available.

Well, you can stop checking — at least for now. But don’t worry, the update is still set to arrive today, however it will not be arriving until late tonight. Not to mention, even when it does begin later tonight, the initial roll-out will be to a limited group. You know, just in case something goes wrong.

Anyway, Motorola has offered up a few brief points about what to expect;

  • The update will be pushed late tonight. If you go to bed, it should be waiting for you in the morning. West Coast members and night owls may be up to see it.
  • It’s a good idea to keep your phone charged if possible and plugged in overnight. You don’t have to keep it on, but you can.
  • If you are rooted, you must flash back to the standard Droid X software to receive the update. (Even then we can’t guarantee the update will work.)

Bottom line, we would suspect that a good amount of Droid X users will not see the update until sometime early next week, but hey, there is always hope that you will wake up Saturday morning with a notification waiting. Still, judging from what we have seen several times in the past with Android updates, me personally, I would be happy to not be in that first group. Better safe than sorry. Of course, we know how impatient some (ourselves included) can be when it comes time for a big update — so with that we wish all Droid X users the best of luck and hope everything goes according to plan.

      This is nuts! How long do we have to keep waiting for GB. Next thing we know, there will be some glitch this weekend, and the OTA update will be pushed back indefinitely.

      What you left out was that your quote from Motorola was taken from an email sent to the soak test members only. So only those people accepted into the soak test will see an update tonight. They will have it exclusively until Sunday when they have to fill out a survey and submit any issues back to Motorola. After that, the info will be gone over and any fixes will be done……then the OTA push will happen for everyone else. June 1st is the date being thrown around by Verizon people as the date when you can manually pull the update.
