Netflix for Android Update Brings Support For More Smartphones, HTC Thunderbolt Still Out
Netflix is available on various Android handsets right now, with the majority of them not really supporting the app officially. We’ve shown you a bunch of ways to make the app work on rooted and unrooted unsupported devices, and a special tweak to make it run on the Thunderbolt, but Netflix is yet to bring official support for all the Android handsets out here.

Today the Netflix for Android app has been updated to support more devices, but don’t get too excited as only three new handsets have been officially added: LG Revolution, Motorola Droid and Casio G’zOne Commando C771. Here’s the official changelog for the update:
What’s in this version:
- Various minor bug fixes.
- Fixed application failure on startup when phone’s embedded storage space is almost full.
- Removed check that prevented attempt to playback on unsupported devices.
- Added support for LG Revolution, Motorola Droid and Casio G’zOne Commando C771.
The Revolution and the G’zOne (our review here) are brand new Android handsets, and one would assume they should definitely sport Netflix support. But the Motorola Droid is quite old, and the fact that it’s ready to run Netflix only proves that plenty of other Android handsets should get Netflix support too.
We’re still surprised to see one of the best Android handsets out there, the HTC Thunderbolt, not yet capable of dealing with the official Netflix app. After all we’re looking at a 4.3-inch device with LTE connectivity that should be able to run Netflix considering that it has both a large enough display and proper support for video streaming.
What’s great about the update is that Netflix has removed the check that prevented the app from running on unsupported devices, so at least you could try this new app version on any Android handset right now without performing any other extra tricks.
