Twitter Confirms TweetDeck Purchase, States That It Will Remain Available For "Power-Users"

TweetDeck Users Can Breath A Sigh Of Relief, Twitter Will Not Be Killing It Off

While many of the TweetDeck users have already heard the news that the app was purchased by Twitter, there is a bit of good news coming this morning. It seems that the crew at both Twitter and TweetDeck have officially announced the sale on their respective blogs, and at risk of spilling the good news so quickly — TweetDeck will remain available.

In fact, it seems that Twitter may have picked up TweetDeck more for the value that it offers as opposed to controlling the competition as many originally thought. According to the details coming from the Twitter blog;

“This acquisition is an important step forward for us. TweetDeck provides brands, publishers, marketers and others with a powerful platform to track all the real-time conversations they care about.”

But perhaps a bit more exciting for current TweetDeck users, the posting went on to mention that they will “continue to invest in the TweetDeck that users know and love.” In other words, not only will TweetDeck remain available, it will continue to be improved.

Twitter (as well as the details from TweetDeck) went on to describe it as being a tool for the power-user as opposed to the mainstream user base which will continue to be served by the current Twitter apps.

Coming from the TweetDeck blog;

“And by becoming part of the official platform, TweetDeck will now fill that role for brands, influencers, the highly active and anyone that just needs “more power”.”

And speaking in terms of changes, so far nothing has been promised however TweetDeck did make mention that “change may well be inevitable, but we remain the same team, staying in London, with the same focus and products, and now with the support and resources to allow us to grow and take on even bigger challenges.”
