Sony Hacked A Tenth Time, This Time In Canada
It has been a terrible, terrible month to be Sony. Between the disaster in Japan doing huge amounts of damage to their physical plant and property, to the repeated and ongoing outages and hackings of their various network properties, it’s beginning to look like Sony’s been outright cursed. And now, they’ve just taken yet another hacking, their tenth such reported hack to date, by way of their Canadian eShop for Sony Ericsson gear. And worse yet, it was a doozy.

Not only did the hack result in the compromising of the personal details of fully a thousand Canadian users of the Sony Ericsson eShop, but the data was then not only posted publicly on storage site Pastebin, but also in users’ Twitter feeds and Facebook accounts. Word is that no credit card data was taken, but that’s somewhat small comfort considering how many other forms of personal data are out there that you wouldn’t want just anyone getting hands on.
A screenshot was taken by the folks at The Hacker News, and credit for the hacking goes to a Lebanese hacker by the handle of “Idahc”.
This is an ongoing and extremely problematic set of circumstances, folks, and most folks are probably beginning to wonder just how safe their personal data actually is, considering the sheer number of major corporate sites that have been hacked and their resulting personal data strewn about the internet. But it also goes to show the importance of keeping your security systems up to date–not only for your personal computer, but also for those who do business online–and watching things tied to your security (like your bank accounts and the like) with extra care.
Anyone out there particularly concerned about their personal data? Are you–or maybe were you, considering–a user of the Canadian eShop for Sony Ericsson gear? If you’ve got something to say about this, we want to hear from you, so hit the comments section and tell us what you think of all this.

I am a microsoft fanboy thru and thru, but even this seems to be getting ridiculous. I believe the hackers have made their point.
This better spur on Microsoft and Live to beef up their security to higher levels.
Hard not to agree with that one, Mickey. It’s vital that they get their security ready for what seems to be happening a lot more often these days.
