Xperia Play Getting Minecraft Before Other Android Devices
If you got excited when it was revealed that the PC-hit Minecraft would be making its way to Android devices, well, we hate to say it, but there’s a bit of a catch. Developer Mojang told Gamastura today that Xperia Play would be getting the Android version of Minecraft before any other devices, so if you’re not planning on picking up the “PlayStation Phone” after its US release in a couple of days, you’ll have to wait.

Mojang didn’t specify how long the Xperia Play’s exclusivity period would be, but they did say that the game is being customized for the phone’s PlayStation-esque controls. Other than those little tidbits, Mojang kept the lid on the details, failing to provide a release date for both the Android version and the planned iOS version. They did say, however, that when the mobile version does release, it’ll follow the PC version’s model of “release early, update often,” which is a feature that’s gone over well with a lot of players.
Mojang’s hesitation to fill us in the is likely due to the fact that they’re planning a Minecraft-themed event for E3, so there’s a pretty good chance that we’ll be finding out more details in the weeks to come.
So, how about it? Are you getting an Xperia Play later this week? Will you be picking up Minecraft when it eventually releases for your preferred mobile platform? Let us know in the comments section below.
