Digital Storm Brings Out Its ODE [ODE Geared Toward Gamers On Something Of A Budget, Still Packs Good Specs]
The whole idea of a budget gaming PC leaves me somewhat nonplussed and just a little baffled. After all, a big name gaming PC should be jam-packed with almost unnecessarily high levels of capability, while a budget PC should be by nature simpler and packing in less. But the folks out at Digital Storm are looking to a little bit of both with their ODE gaming PC.

The ODE from Digital Storm starts things off with a liquid-cooled Intel Core i7 2600k processor, running at a pretty substantial five GHz. Then it adds on eight gigs of DDR3 RAM, a pair of SLI Nvidia GTX 570 graphics cards, a terabyte hard drive, DVD / CD-RW drive, and Windows 7 Home Premium. From there, you can start adding on a slate of extras, including a variety of monitors (including one 3D monster that sells for $1478 by itself), a variety of audio options (like a five-speaker 5.1 surround sound system complete with subwoofer), keyboard and mouse options, and more.
You may be wondering where I get off calling something like this a budget model, but considering that the base model (which still includes the Intel Core i7 and the like) starts at $1499, that actually starts looking pretty budget, especially for the gaming market. Of course, when you start adding in all the options you could easily double that, so be careful lest your budget model start looking like a budget buster.
It is, admittedly, encouraging to see higher-end specs on a more affordable model (still, $1499 is a lot for a desktop these days, but at those specs, it’s not out of line), and the level of customization available here is definitely a point in this thing’s favor.
But is it something you’d buy? Do you think this would make a good gaming PC for you in its base model status, or do you think you’ll need too many extras to make it worthwhile? Hit the comments section and tell us what you think about the Digital Storm ODE.
