Square Updates Its Mobile Payment App For iOS [Shelves With Items, Product Variations Give Square An Impressive New Look]

We’ve been following Square–the mobile payment app launched by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey–for some time now, and things just seem to keep getting better for the mobile payment processor. People are using the service in job lots, payments are flowing, cash is flowing, and people are discovering just how easy it is to sell stuff via credit card thanks to the mobile processor for iOS and other devices. Now, a recent update has given the Square service a facelift and some exciting new features to boot.

One, you’ll now be able to take advantage of your iPad’s enhanced screen real estate to show off your product line thanks to a kind of simulated shelving system, as pictured above. All your products, complete with pictures, are now clearly visible on Square’s  simulated shelving system. I don’t know about you, but looking at that pic makes me hungry for baked goods, and that’s the exact effect they were no doubt going for. I’d buy one of those cinnamon rolls in a heartbeat.

You’ll also be able to set up cases for product variants; if you sell, for example, T-shirts, you’ll no longer have to set up a separate entry for each color, but rather, you’ll be able to sell them in one category but with different versions in the various colors you offer. And they’ve even altered the look a bit so it all looks just a bit more professional, which is something that may not appeal quite so much to some as to others, but when you’re selling stuff, you do want that professional look to at least some degree.

It’s hard not to be happy about the new features and the new look, and it’s good that Square is constantly re-evaluating itself and its features in the face of the competition that’s coming its way. There are a lot of people who, no doubt, want a slice of that sweet, sweet mobile payment processing pie, and if Square wants to keep doing what it’s doing, they’re going to need all the help they can get.

Anybody out there use Square? Like the new features? Wish they’d left well enough alone? The comments section is waiting for you, folks, so tell us what you think down below!
