Nike+ Turns 5, Means You Can Download The Nike+ GPS App For Free
Its been a little while since Nike last updated their Nike+ GPS app on the iPhone, and while it would it would have been nicer if this bit came with some new features, it does come with a new (albeit temporary) price. It seems Nike+ has turned 5 years old and Nike has dropped the price of the app in celebration.

Those who have not yet and have been considering purchasing the Nike+ GPS app can now do so for free. Yup, Nike has dropped the price of the Nike+ GPS app from $1.99 down to $0.00. Of course, that price drop is noted as being temporary, and sadly they did not mention when that would end and the price would increase again. That being said, you may want to download it now, just in case.
And for those who may have remembered the last update, first you have a good memory as that came back in mid-January. That update brought a new feature called Nike+ Tag, which is described as being “just like when you played as a kid, your goal is to escape being tagged IT by outrunning your friends.”
Overall, that sounds like a decent feature, if for no other reason than to keep you motivated to put in those miles. Of course, as an avid runner — I have to say that you should want to put in the miles, not feel like you have to beat your friend.
Otherwise, some of the other features of the Nike+ GPS app include;
- Record your pace, distance and run route using the iPhone’s GPS and accelerometer technology so you can see your progress over time and push yourself to go even further.
- Get voice feedback during your run on how you’re doing, or tap the map to see where you are.
- Quickly send each run to Nikeplus.com where you can brag to friends, join challenges, set goals and connect with the rest of the Nike+ community.
- Activate personalized PowerSongs to help you blast past your goals and records.
- Keep a record of your best runs and see if you’ve got what it takes to break them.
And lastly, the Nike+ GPS app requires iOS 4.0 or later and will run on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 as well as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations of the iPod touch.
