Amazon Tablets To Possibly Come In Two Varieties, Packing Tegra Chips

Early Reports Emerge Suggesting That The Amazon Tablets May Come In Two Sizes And Use Tegra Chips

The Amazon tablet may be stuck in “stay tuned” mode, but we’ve heard a couple of early reports that may suggest a technological path emerging for the possibly upcoming hardware, and the path in question is actually quite encouraging.

The newest reports, which are still very much early stage and unconfirmed, come from analyst Tim Bajarin, who suggests that there will be two flavors of tablet to work with, a ten inch version and a seven inch version. There are also reports that say they will use Nvidia’s new quad-core Tegra SoC as a way to get into an already crowded tablet marketplace.

Bajarin’s sources, who are said to be insiders operating in Taipei, suggest further that the Amazon tablets will be ready ahead of the big Christmas shopping season (which, frankly, makes a whole lot of sense), but interestingly, there have also been some problems here. The word is that Amazon wanted to offer up a switchable black and white display like E Ink as well as a color LCD hybrid display, but upon talking to the two vendors Amazon was looking to use, this was thrown out as a suitable display wouldn’t be ready until as late as 2013.

This story gets extra credibility considering that the current word puts Samsung at the forefront of the Amazon‘s tablet, and Samsung has plenty of experience with seven and ten inch Android tablets.

Of course, all this has to be taken with the requisite grain of salt, as none of it is as yet confirmed. Still though, it does dovetail pretty nicely with what we’ve heard so far, and is certainly better than the official company line of “stay tuned”. But will a quad-core Tegra and Amazon content support be sufficient to make this one worthwhile in the eyes of an already packed tablet market?

What do you guys think here? Think Amazon can compete with a glutted tablet market? Or will they fall behind the numerous other competitors? Hit the comments section and tell us what you think!
