PayPal Android App Update Coming, Will Allow You To Deposit Checks With A Picture
PayPal may have begun allowing iOS users to deposit checks using their iPhone way back in October of last year, however that does not mean that they have forgotten about Android users. According to recent reports, PayPal is going to roll-out an updated version of their Android app today and users will be able to take a picture and make a deposit.

That said, a quick check of the Android Market is still showing version 2.7.1 which was released back in April and brought the patch for session time-out issues. Otherwise, the PayPal app currently works with Android 1.6 or later. But the old update aside, in terms of the one expected for today — it is noted as having two features.
The first is the already mentioned ability to deposit checks, or as PayPal refers to it — Mobile Check Capture. The second new feature will be one that will make those with limited internal storage (and Android 2.2 Froyo) happy — Move To SD Card.
And for those not as familiar with Mobile Check Capture, you just need to sign your check as you normally would and then take a picture of both the front and back of the check. Of course, the ability to take a clear picture will also come in handy if you actually want to see your deposit.
According to PayPal it can take up to 6 business days for your check to clear and be available for use, but we suppose considering that it takes 3 business days to clear an eCheck or 3 business days to transfer funds out to a regular checking account that is not all that bad of a time. Plus, there has to be some consideration taken in for the fact that you can do all this from the comfort of your home.
With that, look for the latest update to PayPal for Android to show up in the Market later today.
