iPhone 4S/5 Release Day May be September; 8-megapixel Camera May Be Included

Apple Lowers iPhone 4 Production While Waiting for the iOS 5 Smartphones; Specs & Features Include New Image Sensor & Qualcomm 3G & CDMA Chips

We’re not exactly expecting an LTE iPhone 4S/5 for later this year, are we, folks? Not only did we receive plenty of hints from Apple and read enough analysts’ reports to know the LTE iPhone will be eventually launched in 2012 but such a phone would be pretty much useless, not only in the USA but also in other international markets.

LTE is a Verizon thing for now, and while other U.S. carriers will soon embrace the technology, international markets are not quite ready to move to real 4G in the following months.

A new report originating from Taiwan says that the launch of the iPhone 4S (alternative name for the iPhone 5) is “planned as early as September 2011” but, as always, we can’t confirm any of that yet. People in the know generally agree that Apple will unveil the new smartphone at a special September Apple media event, the company’s usual fall Music-centric event, so it wouldn’t be that surprising to see the first iPhone 4S/5 sold soon after it becomes official.

A previous report, which I personally consider shady at best for now, claimed that the iPhone 4S/5 is coming only in November to the UK, but we definitely can’t rule out the possibility of Apple launching the 2011 iOS 5 smartphone at some point closer to the holiday shopping season.

Digitimes notes that Apple is lowering its iPhone 4 production, from 20 million to 17.5-18 million, not only because the iPhone 4S/5 is expected to enter production in August but also because the company has plenty of left iPhone 4 inventory left.

As for the new iPhone, the same source suggest that the handset will come with a new 8-megapixel shooter on board, provided by OmniVision Technologies and Largan Precision, and 3G and CDMA chips from Qualcomm. Of course we still have a long way to go until the iPhone 4S/5 becomes official so there’s plenty of time to put together these bits and pieces.
