Stringer Defends Sony Against Criticisms That They Waited Too Long To Inform Customers Of PSN Security Breach

Sony has taken their share of tongue lashings from both consumers and politicians over this whole debacle with the PlayStation Network, but perhaps the most prevalent criticism comes in the complaints that Sony waited too long before notifying customers about the security breach.

Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer fired back today, criticizing the criticizers in an interview with Reuters. “This was an unprecedented situation,” Stringer said. “Most of these breaches go unreported by companies. Forty-three percent (of companies) notify victims within a month. We reported in a week. You’re telling me my week wasn’t fast enough?”

While a week can certainly be considered fast when compared to other companies’ policies, Stringer seems to be forgetting that this is one of the biggest security breaches in internet history. He also seems to forget that tact is definitely his best weapon when his company’s reaction to this mess probably has a lot to do with whether or not customers begin abandoning Sony in droves.
