Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Now Available
If you’ve been wanting to buy a thin business-oriented notebook computer, look no further. The ThinkPad X1 is here.

It’s a ThinkPad. That’s probably all you want to know about it and get hooked, if you’re fond of this iconic IBM (now Lenovo) brand. Leaked–and subsequently confirmed–just a few weeks ago, Lenovo has finally announced the availability of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 in the US. Lenovo calls the ThinkPad X1 a crossover notebook, in that it’s targeted at both business and consumer markets.
The ThinkPad X1 is an ideal business workhorse with its Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors in a 13-inch form factor. The X1 also features Gorilla Glass display, contributing to the toughness and durability. While not exactly the lightest at 3.7 pounds, the ThinkPad X1 is thin, measuring less than 17mm in thickness. Another feature that makes the X1 ideal for business use is the new battery. The RapidCharge battery can get up to 80% capacity with just a 30-minute charge. An external “slice” battery can also double the battery life to 10 hours.
Home users won’t be disappointed with the ThinkPad X1, though, as it also highlights multimedia features, such as a Dolby Home Theater soudn system, HDMI output, 1080p wireless streaming, and a backlit keyboard. Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience 2.0 for Windows 7 ensures that you can boot up the X1 at 20 seconds faster than the typical Windows 7 computer.
Today’s thinnest Core i7 isn’t exactly cheap at $1,400, but it’s worth it if you’ll be doing serious number crunching or even gaming on this thin but capable machine.
