Nook Color Users Downloaded 1 Million Apps -- In Just 1 Week

Barnes & Noble Launched Nook Apps For The Nook Color & Users Downloaded The First Million Apps In The First Week

When Barnes & Noble launched the most recent software update for the Nook Color back on April 25th, they included the Nook Apps app store. Anyway, at that time Barnes & Noble noted that the features of that update were amongst the most requested by the users.

Well, needless to say, that statement was probably about as accurate as could be. As it turns out, Nook Color users went into Nook Apps with full force and downloaded 1 million apps in just 1 weeks time. According to Barnes & Noble;

“Our recent software update to NOOK Color delivered the most requested tablet features by our customers, including the ability to shop for and download high-quality apps. Reaching over a million app downloads in just a week since the launch of NOOK App shopping for all NOOK Color customers exceeded expectations, and is an exciting milestone for our developers, publishing partners, and most importantly for our rapidly growing NOOK Color user base,” said William Lynch, Chief Executive Officer of Barnes & Noble.”

As for which apps are the most popular. The top 5 paid apps include;

  • Angry Birds
  • Drawing Pad
  • Solitaire
  • Aces Jewel Hunt
  • Astraware Mahjong

And the top 5 free apps include;

  • Fliq Calendar
  • Fliq Notes
  • Pulse
  • Nook Word of the Day
  • Fliq Tasks

Given those lists, it seems sort of funny to see how many people are willing to shell out money for games and then use the free apps for items that can be considered productive such as a calendar, notes and tasks app. That said, we cannot help but offer a bit of congratulations for Fliq who is sitting with three of the top five free apps. And on the paid side, it is really any surprise that Angry Birds has taken top honors. Otherwise, Barnes & Noble also noted that users have “given the top 10 paid and free NOOK Apps the highest 4 or 5 star rating.”
