Verizon Begins Rolling Out HTC Thunderbolt Software Update

HTC Thunderbolt owners are in for a little treat as Verizon has begun rolling out latest software update. The update is coming over the air and is the same one that we had seen announced back at the end of April and then delayed just a few days later.

That said, this latest update is still not going to give anyone Gingerbread, however while that may be disappointing for some, it looks like this one will still be well worth the time it takes to update. But first, the details for the update. This will bring your build number up to 1.13.605.7 and your baseband up to 1.16.00.0402w_1. The update is said to measure in at 22.28MB and expected to take around 5 minutes to download and another 5-10 minutes to update.

With that out of the way, here is what you can expect in terms of changes and additions;

Web Browsing and Data Access

• Enhanced data connectivity when accessing the Verizon 3G network.

Email and Messaging

• SMS and MMS messages are stored properly in the Messaging Application (Inbox, Sent, etc.).

Additional Device Features

• Timing for device activation has been improved.
• “Backup Assistant” is correctly displayed in the Application menu.
• Stability improvements for data centric applications such as Facebook, KAYAK, Yahoo! Mail, My Verizon and more.
• Accurate location is displayed when accessing the Weather Widget.
• Quickly load GPS updates for Google Maps and VZ Navigator

Bottom line here, this update is clearly maintenance, however as you can see from the above change log it does offer a few goodies that should make you want to move forward with the update. After all, who would complain about “enhanced data connectivity.” And with that, lets hope the update process goes smooth and rolls-out to all Thunderbolt users without word of any issues as a result.
