New iPhone 5 Leaked Parts Suggest Specs & Features: Same Home Button & iPhone 4 Design

iPhone 5 Speaker & Dock Connector Leaked Ahead of Release Date; Images Say iPhone 5 Could Look Like the iPhone 4

A new iPhone 5-related leak coming in today is going to get everyone that follows closely iPhone 5 leaks and rumors pretty confused including yours truly. We’re looking at iPhone 5 parts that pretty much suggest the phone will keep the same iPhone 4 overall form factor, and that the Home button, said to disappear in the next iPhone iteration, is not going to go anywhere after all.

According to iPhone Italia, a blog that has been pretty right about the white iPhone 4 launch recently, we’re able to take a look at the speaker of the iPhone 5 today, as well as to it’s dock connector.

The parts, available in the images below, are coming from China, and they suggest that Apple is not going to change the overall design of the iPhone 5 that much. But that goes against all sorts of rumors and reports that were basically saying Apple is going to offer us a totally new iPhone 5. The next-gen smartphone was said to be slimmer, to sport a larger display and replace that physical Home button with a capacitive one.

The shape of the speaker suggests the Home button will stay in place, although when comparing this iPhone 5 speaker to its predecessor I’ll have to say it doesn’t look 100% similar to the one found on the iPhone 4. In fact it does seem like the new component is just a little slimmer.

As for the dock, we’re pretty much looking at the same component here.

On the other hand older rumors did say the iPhone 5 will have the same shape as the iPhone 4, although Apple could decide to make such changes when it comes to the outer antennas and the glass back panel.

At the same time Apple is said to make two iPhone 5 versions, one cheaper than the other, so the entry-level iPhone 5 could actually be some sort of an iPhone 4S that would basically be a slightly upgraded iPhone 4 and sell right alongside the iPhone 5. Apple has been doing this for years now; as the new iPhone model gets introduced, the older one becomes its cheaper sidekick. And considering the fact that Apple is still selling plenty of iPhone 3GS units, and plenty more iPhone 4 units, it would actually make sense for Apple to keep up the iPhone 4 production line for a while longer and sell the new, revamped iPhone 4S for dirt-cheap (with new contracts) starting this fall/winter.

That way the iPhone 4S would actually be able to fight off all the super-affordable brand new Android smartphones by becoming a super-affordable Apple smartphone. While we wait for some sort of confirmation to prove today’s iPhone parts are the real deal we’ll also take into account the possibility of these images being fake. But they look pretty real, at least to the untrained eye especially when comparing them with the teardown images from iFixit that show the same iPhone 4 parts.
