Google I/O 2011: All 5000 Attendees Get Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Free

Attendees At Google's 2011 I/O Walk Away With A Samsung Galaxy Tab

Most everyone knew that Google was going to hand out some piece of prime swag for showing up at the 2011 I/O show, but just what that swag was to be had been a jealously guarded secret. But the word is out, and as it turns out, Google’s I/O attendees are going to get a prime piece of Android tabletry: the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The tablet was reportedly fully functional, and the 10.1 inch tablet packs a resolution of 1280 x 800, assisted by a 1 GHz dual-core processor with 32 gigs of storage, a full gig of RAM and Android 3.0, or Honeycomb for those of you who favor the sugary surnames slapped on the software.

A lot of software has been shown off out at the Google I/O so far, from Google Movies on the Android Market to Google Music’s beta site to even new versions of Android, so it’s definitely good to actually have a bit of hardware to talk about, even if the hardware in question is somewhat old news. I do find myself wondering, though, why they handed out at Samsung Galaxy Tab as opposed to, say, a Motorola Xoom.

Of course, it could have something to do with the very, very recent announcement of a sign-up page for information about the Samsung tablet, as our own Chris Smith caught earlier today. With a rumored launch date of June 8th, it’s not a terrible idea to get that name out in front of people. Handing out 5000 of them at your show is a pretty good way to do just that.

But either way, there are about 5000 people who are extra happy they went out to Google’s 2011 I/O show, because not only are they getting a look at a fine array of software items from the search engine giant, they’re walking away with a sweet chunk of hardware in their goodie bags to boot.
