Nexus S 4G On Sale From Sprint

Sprint Now Selling Google's Stock Android Phone Themselves, $200 Contract Price With $10 Monthly Data Fee

Best Buy has been offering the Nexus S 4G from Google (and Samsung) for a while now, but now, (as promised) Sprint is getting into the act as well. The carrier will now be selling the phone for their network for the price of $199 with a new two-year contract.

Expect the Galaxy S 4G to be sold at all the usual outlets, Sprint’s webpage and their local stores. You may remember how at first, the Nexus One, Nexus S and Nexus S 4G were sold at non-carrier outlets, without the carriers having anything to do with them. Since then, some carriers have become more welcoming to the official Google phones, hence we see Sprint starting to offer the phone themselves.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to pay Sprint’s $10/month premium data fee for any 4G capable phone on their network, this one included. Also, if you’re looking for the cheapest deal, Best Buy is still offering the Nexus S 4G for just $149, on the same two-year contract from Sprint.

Let’s recap the Nexus S 4G, it’s the same as the stock Nexus S, but with WiMAX 4G for Sprint:

  • 4.0-inch OLED/Super LCD display
  • Android 2.3
  • 1GHz processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 16GB memory
  • 5MP rear camera
  • 1.2MP front facing camera

Advantages for Android nerds means that because it’s a “stock” Android device, it should receive all the Android updates sooner, rather than later, from Google. Not a bad situation to be into. The Sprint 4G is also fast, my own experience with it is that speeds range from 2Mb/s to 4Mb/s. Your mileage may vary, of course.
