Mac OS X Lion To Get iOS Uninstalls
There have been a lot of Windows users converting to Macs in the past 10 years. In that time, the first thing they don’t understand is how to turn the computer on. After that, they don’t know how to uninstall things. It really isn’t that difficult, but the absence of a Control Panel can cause confusion for some otherwise intelligent Mac converts. Now, Mac OS X Lion (the next major update for Mac OS X) will be getting what is being called “iOS-style uninstalls” to the operating system.

Developers who are using the developer’s build of Mac OS X Lion are reporting that apps purchased from the Mac App Store can now be uninstalled like they are on the iPhone or iPad. You’ll click and hold on the icon, everything will shake, then you click the “X”, you’re prompted to confirm you want to uninstall and boom – uninstalled. I should mention that this on the “Launchpad”, the iOS-like applications launcher that’s being added in Mac OS X Lion.
Yes, this only applies to the Mac App Store for now. Regular applications will have to be dragged to the recycling bin, per usual. No word if Apple plans to add this functionality to ‘regular’ apps, but it seems evident to me that Apple is pushing further and further towards the Mac App Store.
The version of the developer build of Mac OS X Lion that had this was sent out on April 29th, according to SlashGear. Apple has only promised Mac OS X will be coming in “Summer 2011”.
