Future MacBook, MacBook Air & MacBook Pro to Come with ARM Chips Instead of Intel?
A few days ago we told you that word on the street was that Apple would move from ARM chips architecture, for its mobile devices, to Intel in the future. That was a day ahead of Intel announcing its new 3D chips architecture, Ivy Bridge, that comes with a new 3D transistor technology which should make future Intel processors even more energy efficient while delivering a superior performance.

Now, with this in mind, how would feel about seeing Apple move from Intel to ARM when it comes to its future notebooks and even desktops? A new report is now suggesting that Apple would be using ARM CPUs starting with 2013, in its future MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines.
The move is intended to take place as soon as NVIDIA’s Denver platform is out, which is now said to happen in Q4 2012. Project Denver is something Microsoft is also interested in (remember CES 2011?) and, apparently, it’s something we could see on future MacBooks. The news seems sort of wild right now, considering the tight relationship between Apple and Intel, but these rumors seem to come straight from Apple insiders so, while a huge chunk of salt is required with any Apple product-related rumor, we’ll put a pin on this ARM-based MacBook information for future reference.
It would make sense, from certain points of view, for Apple to stick it out with just one of these two bad boys. Apple relies on both Intel and ARM chips for its computer and mobile, respectively, divisions, so the company could be interested in focusing on just one of them in the future. That’s why we find it pretty interesting to see such contradicting rumors hit in the same week. Is Apple going to go Intel-only or ARM-only in the foreseable future?
One thing is sure, Apple, now a $65 billion company, is not going to go anywhere in the coming years, and provided the world will not end in December 2012 then we’ll see the Cupertino-based giant grow even more. And nobody will want to lose Apple as a client, will they?
