Star Wars: The Old Republic May Miss 2011 Release Date
Were you looking forward to slaying Sith or contributing to the eradication of the Jedi over 2011′s holiday season? Well, you might not get the chance to, as EA has said during an investors call that there’s an “outside chance,” that Star Wars: The Old Republic may miss the planned 2011 release date, instead launching in January of 2012.

So, even if it does miss a 2011 release date, a launch in January 2012 is hardly something to cry about. But why all this run around? Why haven’t we gotten a solid release date yet, when the game has been in the news for well over a year now? According to Eurogamer, EA also explained why they’re reluctant to share an actual release date for the game, with games chief Frank Gibeau saying, “Everyone is waiting for us to announce the ship date. Sorry, but that’s not going to happen today.”
“We’re holding the date for two reasons,” he added. “First, we don’t want to tip off the competition; second, we want more data from the beta test to guarantee a spectacular experience at launch.”
So basically, a big part of the reason why we’re not getting a release date is because EA doesn’t want Blizzard to drop a new World of Warcraft expansion around the time Star Wars: The Old Republic releases. It makes sense, but they’re going to have to reveal a date eventually, and when they do we’ll be sure to let you know.
