HTC Bliss To Be Android Phone For Women?
Not that I’m an expert on women or anything (quite the opposite, in fact), but I generally find that they don’t like most Android phones. For some reason, women don’t like the machismo robot sci-fi techno theme of Verizon’s Droid brand. I guess they don’t like phones that have giant robot eyes and make obnoxious alarm and bleeping noises, and are advertised with commercials that have robots shooting laser beams and clashing steel. But it goes beyond that, as I’ve found they don’t like the thickness of some Android phones, and they don’t like the huge 4.3-inch screens that us manly men like, and often they prefer mechanical keyboards. So, I wasn’t surprised to hear the rumor that HTC is working on a woman-centric Android phone.

According to rumors circulated around the blogosphere, this phone will be called the “HTC Bliss”. The phone will allegedly be colored with a “greenish hue”, which was selected for its “calming effect”. It’ll also have a rubber back so “women can have a better grip of the phone,” reports ThisIsMyNext.com, who broke the story. It’s supposed to be a mix of the HTC Desire S and Desire Z – but without a physical keyboard. It’ll be thin, just 0.54-inches thick.
Allegedly, HTC is looking into having the phone preloaded with calorie counting and online shopping comparison apps. Also, the company is said to be selling a series of matching feminine Bluetooth accessories for the phone.
So, is this for real? It’d give it maybe a 50/50 chance of being legit. What makes me suspicious is that the original rumor mentions picking green for the “calming effect”, and having a rubber back so women can grip it better. And the shopping apps, etc. Those things could be true, but the guy leaking them could just be a dick and HTC will market them differently if this phone is real and comes out.
I do know from first-hand experience that a lot of women think the Droid phones on Verizon are overtly manly and the whole thing is a turn off to them. A lot of women also like the iPhone. (Not that I’m saying can’t or don’t use Android phones – please don’t email me). There could be an untapped market out there for HTC, Verizon and Google of women who think of the manly Lance Henriksen -voiced commercials when they think of Android.
Ladies, do you think this is real? Would you buy an Android phone for women? Tell us about it in the comments section.
