New Nook eReader Coming May 24th, Says Barnes & Noble Financial Filings
Barnes & Noble will be coming out with a new eReader, according to financial documents they’ve filed with the SEC (Security and Exchange Commission) – as apart of their duties as a publicly traded company. Not a lot of details are given in the stoic financial papers, but, we do have a release date for the upcoming eReader.

In their filing with the SEC, B&N disclosed that they will be making an announcement regarding a new eReader on May 24th. Barnes & Noble went on to say that they were only disclosing this information in the interest of “Regulation Fair Disclosure”, a regulation required by the SEC saying that outside investors have all the information of investors that work at the company.
The Nook Color is based on Android, and many modders have actually managed to root the device and turn it into a fully functional Android tablet – including with the ability to put the official Kindle app from the Android Market onto the device. Many folks are speculating now that Barnes & Noble’s next “eReader” will actually be closer to a tablet than just a dedicated eBook reader. Barnes & Noble is really in the game of selling eBooks, not eReaders – so I don’t know how competing with the iPad, Xoom and others directly would help.
Anyway, sales of the Nook Color have been reportedly good for Barnes & Noble. Amazon just released the “Kindle With Special Offers”, which is basically an ad-supported Kindle. The eReader market is still hot, don’t think that because we have PlayBooks and iPads there isn’t any room for eReaders in this world.
