Amazon (Kindle) Tablet Coming Soon; Quanta to Make It?

New Report Suggests Amazon’s 2011 Tablet Plans Are Real, Release Date Not Available Yet

This isn’t the first time we bring you Amazon tablet rumors as it seems that this year Amazon will be launching a new product, one that won’t be just another Kindle eReader upgrade.

Considering that we see news about different tablets left and right these days, a Kindle Tab (that’s not the official name, but one we’re making up for the time being) tablet would certainly be an interesting product to compete against the iPad 2 and the plethora of Android tablets available in stores already. Amazon, unlike other manufacturers, would have exactly the thing tablet owners are now looking for, a huge content farm, no matter if we’re talking about movies, TV shows, music, eBooks or apps. Not to mention that Amazon has plenty of online stores in various markets to sell its tablet, which would also be an important advantage.

Amazon can rival Apple when it comes to content, and by creating an affordable, Kindle-like tablet, that would naturally double as an eBook reader too, Amazon could have an iPad 2 killer on its hands. Today’s report says that Quanta Computers is going to make tablet PCs for Amazon. The device is said to receive “full support from Taiwan-based electrophoretic display (EPD) maker E Ink Holdings (EIH) for supplying touch panel as well as providing its Fringe Field Switching (FFS) technology.”

Amazon is expected to produce up to 700,000-800,000 tablets per month during “the peak season” which means we could see this baby hit Amazon stores at some point in time for the Holiday shopping season. Quanta is said to start shipping Amazon tablets in the second half of 2011, although a release date for the Amazon tablet is not yet available.

A previous rumor suggested that the first Amazon tablet in the world would be an Android-based device that would be built by Samsung. Today’s report doesn’t mention the chosen mobile OS, and it doesn’t say anything about the involvement of Samsung either. But it also can’t be confirmed yet and we don’t expect Amazon to share any Kindle Tab details anytime soon.

What say you, folks, would you buy an Amazon tablet?
