iPad 2 Jailbreak Coming from Geohot?

Despite having been jailbroken a day after its U.S. launch, the iPad 2 is currently the only iOS device out there that can’t be jailbroken with current jailbreak tools. Apple has made sure when it built the iPad 2 that it patched the security flaws that currently let hackers jailbreak all the other iOS devices out there, and a public iPad 2 jailbreak tool is yet to be released by the iOS hacking community.

Comex has jailbroken his iPad 2 but that doesn’t mean any of the current jailbreak tools available to the public have also been updated to include his hacks. That’s where Geohot enters stage, a famous hacker known for messing with Apple’s iOS devices, when it comes to jailbreak and unlock solutions, and the same guy that was recently sued by none other than Sony for his PlayStation jailbreaks.

Geohot has recently developed Limera1n, the hack that will jailbreak all other iOS devices, and he will probably figure out to jailbreak the iPad 2, if indeed the rumors we hear are right. The news comes from p0sixninja, another hacker that’s determined to jailbreak the iPad 2. Apparently p0sixninja dared Geohot to jailbreak the iPad 2 before him, and it looks like Geohot accepted and he’s on his way of buying an iPad 2 to perform the task. But will they release an iPad 2 jailbreak right away or should we expect it to come out only once iOS 5 becomes official?

Since jailbreaking, rooting and unlocking is legal in the USA when it comes to mobile devices, chances are that Apple will not pursue Geohot in court once he would release a new iPad 2 jailbreak tool, but we’re certainly going to keep close tabs on Geohot’s potential return to the iOS jailbreaking community and his progress with the iPad 2.
