Stop The AT&T-T-Mobile Merger? You Can Let The Government Know [FCC Website Now Soliciting Public Comments On The Hearings Regarding AT&T-T-Mobile Acquisition]

Some in the tech blog world have discovered a page where the FCC is taking public comments on various issues that they take up and consider. Normally, most people don’t have opinions on important issues like what to do with 770 MHz band, but considering so many people are against the AT&T-T-Mobile acquisition announced a month ago, it looks like the FCC will get mailboxes full of comments from people urging them not to allow the merger.

I really have no idea on if the FCC actually reads these public comments, or if they’ll actually read them if they get millions regarding the T-Mobile-AT&T deal, which they probably will. Many people are impressed that the FCC has an entire page where you can sound off on their proceedings. Maybe the government should start letting us, you know, write our Senators and Congressmen and tell them what we think (sarcasm).

You can either leave a short comment (using the HTML form) or a long comment (attach a .pdf file), and anything you submit will be a matter of the public record, meaning that it could be retrieved via a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request.

The FCC be will evaluating the T-Mobile-AT&T and deciding if it’s good for the public trust. They’ll be interviewing the two companies and competitors, like Sprint and LightSquared. It’s also believed that Congress will be holding hearings on the matter, so you may want to email your Congressman and inform them that you approve/disapprove of the T-Mobile/AT&T merger. Especially if your Senator sits on the Senate Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee – which begins hearing the AT&T-T-Mobile case on May 11th.
