Upcoming Marvel Universe MMO Will Be Free-To-Play

Gazillion & Marvel Announce That Their Marvel Universe MMO Will Be Subscription-Free, Brian Michael Bendis Set To Pen Story

Are you sick of paying a monthly fee just to fight side-by-side with Superman? Well you know, being the quintessential superhero isn’t an easy job, but luckily for you, the superheroes of the Marvel Universe are willing to cut a few corners. Marvel and Gazillion announced today that their upcoming Marvel Universe MMO will in fact be free-to-play, so close those wallets because Peter Parker has no need for your money.

If you’re a big comic book fan, then the other announcement Gazillion made will likely be more exciting: they’ve announced that Brian Michael Bendis will be the man behind the MMO’s story. Bendis is perhaps best known with being the founding father of the Marvel Ultimate Universe, beginning with Ultimate Spider-Man back in 2001. I didn’t read many of the Marvel Ultimate comics, but I was an avid reader of Ultimate Spider-Man back in the day, and if you’ve never experienced Bendis’s work, trust me, he is a master storyteller.

All in all, the Marvel Universe MMO seems to be coming along nicely. I have faith that Bendis will be able to infuse the game with an excellent storyline, especially with him saying that what’s planned is a “grand, epic tour, a reimagining of some of the biggest events in Marvel history,” and I’ve long been an advocate of the free-to-play MMO model, especially if that MMO wants to stand a chance against World of Warcraft.

These are the first details we’ve received on Gazillion’s Marvel Universe MMO since it was announced more than two years ago, so there isn’t a release date announced yet. Rest assured, though, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one – it involves Spider-Man, how could we not?
