Sony Posts Updated PlayStation Network & Qriocity Services Q&A, Promises A "Goodwill Gesture"
Without going all that far into the back story as we are fairly sure that those affected are well aware of the situation, however it looks like Sony has plans to offer users something in return for this troubled time.

The details come by way of an updated Q&A on the PlayStation Blog and cover topics including download history/friends list/settings as well as trophies for offline games and PS+ cloud saves.
According to the FAQ;
- Q: Will our download history/friends list/settings be affected by the PSN downtime?
- A: No, they will not.
- Q: Will trophies that were earned in single-player offline games during the outage be intact when the service resumes?
- A: These trophies are intact and will be re-synched when the network is once again operational.
- Q: Will my PS+ cloud saves be retrievable?
- A: Yes, once PSN is restored.
But perhaps the part that many are more interested in seeing at this point — the answer to whether they will be compensated. It seems the answer to that question is yes, however Sony has remained quite in terms of what they will be offering.
- Q: Will there be a goodwill gesture for the time we haven’t been able to utilize PSN/Qriocity?
- A: We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.
And lastly, for those who play PS3 MMOs DC Universe Online or Free Realms and are looking for compensation. In this respect Sony has stated that they “apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced” and that they will be “hosting special events across our game portfolio.” But perhaps most important, Sony is also “working on a “make good” plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms” and details will be available “soon.”

Alot of us in fact believe that Someone from the inside or this whole “net hack” means something…
I dont doubt for one moment that “whenever” the services get going, SONY will then be charging its customers to play online…
I CAN GAURANTEE IT, just watch.
They deserve a “swift kick in the peehole” if you ask me.
They had better swollow the shame, and give there users a PSN store gift or something when they get the NETWORK TOPOLOGY, and SERVERS running again.
The backbone of Sony are its customers, we are what bulit them.
I have lost faith in Sony. I am a Net Admin and no how this shit works, and I would like to say that they could have let us known what had happened in a concise , proffessional manner., and not 48+ hrs later.

I agree with you Justin !
Sony should be giving us answers on what exactly has happened, how it happened & what has been compromised (i.e our personal data including our c/card/s)
As a Techy myself, if someone had broken into our network &/or stolen data I would be crushed & alert anybody who had been affected immediately.
I can just about bet that Sony will be charging for secure servers, if not now it wont be far away with the release of big titles like MW3 & BF3 slated this year. To be honest I got a PS3 because it was free to play online. i already paid for the game, & for any subsequent maps needed to further my online experience.

Is it a possibility? yes. But I doubt they will start charging, nor should they for their own errors and mistakes. But I do agree with your the notice could have came sooner, A LOT sooner.
Read the first set of FAQs it answer most of that except “what”. The root values were put out publicly by Geohots (George Hotz). Sony attacked and sued him. (sort of a bait-n-switch tactic if you ask me) And someone (outside hacker/tinkerer) took it upon themself to go one step further. The CC info could be taken, as it was not encrypted data.
What i meant reflex was that info should have been available from the start. It took Sony a while to release anything, including the c/card & personal info that wasnt encrypted ! I cant believe that Sony thought they were that infailable ….
Someone, somewhere was always going to have a go at them & Hotz gave them a reason ! even if it was unjustified & at the inconvenience of the 70+ million end users.
Was it “Anonymous” that took them down ? I dont know, but I seem to think it may be a splinter group or few that could have done it, either way Sony will come after them with a vengeance …. & I think a lot of end users will be right behind them !
As i’m sure you will have done, I have read the ‘supposed’ hacker chat logs. They are a bunch of script kiddies. It’s obvious only one of them knew what they where doing. The credit card information will be safe. Sony have warned us to look out over it, the news has reported to look out. The truth is no-one actually knows if the information was taken or not.
here is a link to the supposed chat logs so you can read yourself

copy and paste.
Sony I highly doubt will begin charging for their service they are smarter than you give them credit and they realize why would sombody pay for our service, which just bombed itself instead of paying for xbox which doesn’t currently have an aggression towards them from hackers.
Also to comment about a few users posts… Sony HAS made it clear that credit cards and personal information were in seperate files, where the personal information was not encrypted, the credit card information was.
If the hackers logs are actually logs from the ones who hacked psn… there is no way that they no how to transgress through and encrypted file, not to mention who knows if they even knew how to find it.
