Sirius Satellite Smartphone Apps May Feature On-Demand Playback & Personalized Stations In Future Versions [Sirius Satellite Version 2.0 For Smartphones May Add Some Current Pandora & Slacker-like Functionality]
It looks like Sirius XM is going to release an update in terms of their mobile apps, and according to the (currently still rumored) details, it looks like the apps will include several new features.

That said, the details are currently coming by way of CNET who are reporting from a “source close to the company.” In other words, these may or may not change before the release becomes official. And as to when, the updated Sirius apps are expected to roll-out sometime in the fall.
Otherwise, lets get to the features which are said to include on-demand listening. And before anyone gets super excited in thinking they will be able to download anything at will or record on your own for future playback — that is not the case. According to the details, Sirius will be launching additional channels that will allow for you to play what you want when you want. Well, play it when you want as long as one of your favorites is going to be set up in that manner. As of now it was not made clear as to which channels/programs would be included.
Moving on though, some other features that may arrive with the updated apps include some that are similar to what users may be familiar with on Pandora and/or Slacker. This one sounds just like the whole thumbs up and thumbs down on Pandora. In addition, there may also be the option to skip songs. And taking this a step further, it was noted that Sirius may also scan those results and in-turn begin to offer a slightly more personalized station.
But the bottom line, will people be willing to pay for this. After all, many new cars now come with aux in jacks and Pandora and Slacker work just fine. Heck, Slacker even allows (paid users) to cache their stations for offline playback. In other words, satellite radio has some serious competition at this point. But that aside, it is nice to see them moving forward and coming with new features to better compete.
